Car smashes through front of Justine’s Pizza in west Loveland - Loveland Reporter-Herald

Barely four hours after an SUV smashed through the front of his Loveland restaurant Sunday morning, Justine’s Pizza owner Greg Jensen had dough rising in the kitchen and was planning to reopen for business in the afternoon.

About 8:30 a.m., Jensen got a call from Loveland police alerting him to the crash, which took out a big plate-glass window, the glass front door and part of a low wall on the front of the restaurant at 1906 W. Eisenhower Blvd.

Greg Jensen, owner of Justine’s Pizza in west Loveland, took this photo of the damage caused when the driver of an SUV accidentally crashed through the front of the restaurant Sunday morning.

No one was hurt in the crash. Police said the driver accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake when she was parking her Toyota in front of the building.

“She came clear through here to that wall,” Jensen said, pointing out damage to the back wall of the small dining area in the front of the restaurant. “It smashed the (two) tables; one of them was just crushed against the wall.”

Loveland Police Sgt. Bryan Bartness said no drugs, alcohol or medical problem led to the 8:15 crash. The driver, a Loveland woman in her late 60s, wasn’t issued a citation, he said.

“It was just one of those days when you hit the wrong pedal,” Bartness said. “I truly believe what she did was a mistake; it wasn’t that she was being careless or anything like that.”

Roxy Ericson, an employee at Elevation Liquors, which shares Justine’s building, said she was serving a customer on the east end of the store when the crash occurred.

“I heard tires squealing, a loud bang, glass shattering, and it got real hazy in here. There was dust everywhere,” she said. Ericson called 911 and checked on the driver, who seemed fine, she said.

Late Sunday morning, Jensen had a crew from 970 Services cleaning up the damage and putting the storefront back together so he could open for customers.

By the afternoon, a door was installed and the storefront repaired, and Jensen said he was on track to open the doors at the usual 4 p.m. time.
