Looking to build on last year’s trip to the AFC Championship Game, the Tennessee Titans bulked up their front office on Thursday.
In anticipation of the 2020 season, the franchise hired Adolpho Birch as Senior Vice President of Business Affairs and Chief Legal Officer, while Surf Melendez and Dan Werly were brought aboard as Creative Director and General Counsel, respectively.
Birch, a Nashville native, has worked as an NFL executive for almost 25 years. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Labor Policy and League Affairs, overseeing a multitude of top areas such as labor negotiations, managing the drug testing program and government relations. Birch also handled sports betting, employee development and the league’s critical response team. The Father Ryan graduate later attended Harvard and received his law degree from Vanderbilt. With the Titans, Birch will look after legal affairs and segments of human resources, manage team initiatives with state and local government and work to bolster business planning and strategy.
After six seasons as the managing director (content and creative) for the Miami Dolphins, Melendez will be shifting to a new role within the Titans’ organization. Bringing design experience from a three-year stint at Adidas, he will responsible for the team’s creative direction as it relates to digital/broadcast content and game day production.
Werly obtained General Counsel experience following a season with the Nashville Soccer Club. Three years prior, his title of managing partner for Sievert & Werly afforded him the opportunity to represent multiple sports franchises. Upon graduating from Georgetown Law School, Werly had combined six years working for a pair of Chicago law firms.
