ROANOKE, Va (WDBJ) - Showers and any storms begin to taper off through the evening as a front moves through. Drier air behind the front gradually turns skies partly cloudy overnight, however, we may also have areas of patchy fog to deal with toward sunrise as temperatures cool to the mid 60s.
WEDNESDAY
A much-deserved calm stretch of weather moves in with increasing sunshine and a subtle drop in the humidity. Dew points go from the muggy 60s to the comfortable 50s. Afternoon high temperatures will be close to normal, climbing to the mid 80s. Any storm chances from Wednesday through Saturday appear very isolated and will pale in comparison to the past few days and weeks.
THURSDAY & FRIDAY
The pleasant weather continues with mostly sunny skies Thursday and Friday along with an isolated shower chance during the afternoon. Highs return to the low 80s. We will gradually start to feel the humid weather return, but it certainly won’t compare to the tropical air that was in place earlier in the week.
THE WEEKEND
Lots of sunshine will rule the weekend, but the heat and humidity will really soar. Our high temperatures will close in on 90 both days with dew points nearing 70. When you have a dew point near 70 the air feels very muggy and uncomfortable. We could also see a stray storm or two, especially on Sunday.
SAHARAN DUST
We should begin seeing the impacts this weekend from Saharan dust that traveled thousands of miles from the continent of Africa. You’ll likely be underwhelmed by the appearance, as it will basically just look hazy at times in the sky. The more notable impact will be brilliant orange sunrises and sunsets the accompany the dust events.
The dust moved over the Caribbean islands earlier in the week with reduced visibility The island of Puerto Rico was shrouded in the hazy conditions . We don’t expect the dust to be as thick across Virginia when it arrives by the end of the week.
