A Jackson man died of gunshot wounds after he attempted to drive himself to Merit Health Central hospital late Friday night.
The man, whose identity wasn't immediately available, crashed his white Nissan Altima into a utility pole in front of the hospital, said Jackson Police Department Chief James Davis.

The man was shot at another location and appears to have been driving himself to Merit for treatment, Davis said. He was transported from the crash site to inside the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart was not available Saturday morning.
Davis said investigators so far have been unable to locate any witnesses to the shooting. They will interview friends and family of the man to try and determine where he was shot.
There have been four separate shootings in the capital city since Thursday. As of Saturday, there have been 36 homicides in the city since Jan. 1, according to JPD.
