LUDLOW – The principal of the Paul R. Baird Middle School has been named Middle School Principal of the year for Massachusetts.
Stacy Monette, who has served as principal of Baird Middle School since 2016, was selected by the Massachusetts School Administrators Association for this year’s Edmund K. Fanning Award, organization officials announced on Monday.
"I am extremely honored to be named middle school principal of the year and incredibly proud of our Baird family who had a huge part in this designation,” Monette said in the announcement. “I am very fortunate to work with an incredible administrative team and with a group of educators who work collaboratively every day for the benefit of all of our students."
The school has about 610 students in grades six through eight.
Monette, who lives in Belchertown with her husband and two children, holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Westfield State University and a bachelor’s degree in special education from Arizona State University.
Before becoming the principal at Baird Middle School, she served as the assistant principal for Jabish Brook Middle School in Belchertown for nine years. She has also taught special education in middle schools in New Jersey and in Belchertown.
She loves the middle school age and believes in educating the whole child, Monette said on her biography on the Baird Middle School website.
“Stacy (Monette) is an incredibly knowledgeable, talented, and resourceful administrator who utilizes her strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with her staff. Those relationships, coupled with her knowledge of education and ability to apply that knowledge in a multitude of situations, have helped transform the educational environment at Paul R. Baird Middle School," Superintendent Todd Gazda said in congratulating the principal.
"Stacy is uncompromising in her quest for academic excellence and never loses sight of the students or their needs,” he added.
The award recognizes middle school principals who demonstrate exemplary skills in instructional leadership, creating a safe learning environment and encourage all staff members to share ideas and work together to teach students, the announcement said.
She is scheduled to receive the award at the Association’s Leadership Institute later this summer. She will also represent the state at the National Association of Secondary School Principals Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. in early October, it said.
