Baldwin Middle School students cheer up senior citizens with letters, videos - liherald

Baldwin Middle School seventh-grade students have spent the last few weeks focusing on how people could band together during a time of crisis as they read “Rising Water” by Marc Aronson.

And recently, Ms. Carnacchio's students put what they have learned from the book to the test. With nursing homes forbidding visitors in order to protect senior citizens from possible COVID-19 exposure, many of the elderly have been left feeling extremely isolated and alone at a time when they may need love and comfort the most, school representatives said in a statement.

The seventh-graders sent letters and videos they created using FlipGrid to residents in South Shore Rehabilitation, Meadowbrook Care Center, Orzac Center for Rehabilitation, the Grand Pavilion for Rehabilitation and Nursing and Acadia Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

From Ms. Carnacchio's co-teach students to her honors class, all of her students took part in this special project as they kicked off the transition to remote learning. The staff at the nursing homes were touched by the thoughtful gesture, and the seniors were ecstatic to receive such beautiful and inspiring messages from the middle schoolers.
