WEST FARGO — A written note threatening violence was found in a bathroom at Cheney Middle School, and a subsequent investigation determined the threat was not credible, school officials said Friday, March 6.
School administrators learned of the threat Thursday morning and immediately began trying to determine who left the note and when, officials said in a message to Cheney Middle School families.
"Through this investigation, it was determined that there was no credibility to the written threat and there is no danger to the students, staff, or the campus," the message said.
School officials said that through communicating with parents Thursday night and Friday morning, "we have discovered a significant amount of misinformation has been circulated about what transpired."
"This misinformation can incite fear in our student body, our parents, and our community, which can create chaos and issues during the school day," the message said. "These situations are great opportunities to practice safe and respectful use of social media by considering the consequences before posting or reposting a message."
