In the midst of everyone’s isolation, we need hopeful news to keep up our spirits.
With the absence of automobile and air traffic, air pollution has all but vanished. People living in Beijing, which until the outbreak of the epidemic, was one of the most polluted cities in the world, people are now seeing blue skies again. We will get to see the world without petrochemical energy, which may spur us to a serious global effort to reduce use of these fuels.
We are learning how much work can be done online. We might find the work world greatly transformed.
We may also be turning from the mean-spirited culture. We are learning to appreciate each other, to value the good people putting their lives on the line to care for our needs.
Emergencies make us realize what really matters, and that is making better people of us all.
