Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has formally rescinded his resignation following a consensus deal reached with rival political parties.
He made the announcement Tuesday after a Cabinet meeting, saying members of the government had agreed to distance themselves from regional conflicts.
Hariri sparked a political crisis last month when he announced from Saudi Arabia that he would step down, and then remained in Saudi Arabia as speculation swirled as to whether he was being detained. He later traveled to France before returning to Lebanon to take part in Independence Day celebrations.
In his resignation speech, Hariri had denounced Iran and Hezbollah for sowing friction in Arab states and said he feared assassination. His father, former prime minister Rafik Hariri, was killed in a 2005 bombing.
Hariri heads a coalition government that includes ministers from the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group.
