A Weak Cold Front Pushes Through Today - KWTX

We started off the work week with a cold front swinging through the area and yet another cold front is set to move through during the day today. Unlike the front early this week, today’s front will only bring us a smaller drop in temperatures. Morning temperatures today in the mid 50s should warm only into the low-to-mid 80s thanks to the passing front. Outside of a slight increase in northeasterly winds, you probably won’t notice the front passing through since skies stay clear all day long and no rain is in the forecast. You’ll likely notice the effects of today’s front tomorrow since morning and afternoon temperatures will be cooler. Friday’s morning lows in the low 50s should only reach the upper 70s late in the day. Sunshine stays abundant across Central Texas all Friday long.

Mostly clear skies stick around this weekend but thanks to the return of southerly winds, high temperatures both on Saturday and Sunday should warm into the low-to-mid 80s. Another weak cold front is set to move through the area Sunday too. Forecast model data is showing some signs that the front may not actually arrive but regardless of whether or not it pushes in, Sunday’s front won’t have much of an impact on our weather. Our current forecast calls for the front to move through the area and stall to our south Monday before lifting northward as a warm front Tuesday. Monday’s temperatures drop a few degrees into the low 80s but Tuesday through next weekend will feature above normal temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s as high pressure aloft starts to take hold. If Sunday’s front doesn’t make it into Central Texas, temperatures would be a bit warmer than forecast Monday.

After a cool start, highs will only climb into the upper 70s Friday afternoon. Then, Saturday morning will feature a little bit of a chill with overnight temperatures dipping into the upper 40s to low 50s north of the Lake. South of the Lake, temperatures will range from the upper 50s on the West Bank, River Parishes, Bayou Parishes to low 60s on the immediate south shore.

Corey Linsley has been quiet force in middle of Packers' O-line - Packers.com

But it does. Linsley, in a quiet and understated manner, has been a pillar on the Packers' offensive line for 89 starts spread over six seasons, and has snapped to Rodgers more than any other center during the two-time MVP's 12-year run as starting QB.

Over time, he's developed a comprehensive understanding of the nuances unique to Rodgers' cadence and snap count, both of which have been on display in Green Bay's first two road games played in large empty domes.

Between Week 1 in Minnesota and last Sunday in New Orleans, Rodgers has drawn the opposition offside on five third downs. Two resulted in automatic first downs, one led to a 39-yard pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling and another that precipitated a defensive pass interference penalty in the end zone.

Rodgers nearly took a timeout on that one, until calling at the last second for the ball when Saints linebacker Demario Davis jumped into the neutral zone. From there, it was up to Linsley to know when it's time to deliver the ball to his quarterback.

"It's very, very complex," said Linsley of Rodgers' cadence. "It's not like we're sending rockets up into space or anything … but it's complex enough to where being on the same page as him takes a lot of time and effort from studying, playing, all of that. It takes a concerted effort to get used to his cadence."

Linsley recently talked with Bakhtiari, the longest-tenured veteran on Green Bay's offensive line, about how the two have grown to anticipate what Rodgers is going to do and the quantitative effect that's had in potential free-play situations.

It's not just creative chemistry that's made Linsley a stalwart on the O-line since 2014, though. It's his communication at the line of scrimmage, reliable pass-blocking and sneaky athleticism to get to the second level to block for his running backs.

A few of Green Bay's big runs this season – Aaron Jones' 15-yard pickup in Minnesota and Jones' 75-yard touchdown against Detroit – were keyed by Linsley and Jenkins clearing the interior for Jones to power into the second level.

"It's amazing, there are so many guys on the team who sometimes go unnoticed. He's one, he's been incredible," offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said. "His leadership role, the ability to run the entire offensive line, from all the calls that he makes, just his athleticism. The things that we ask him to do, there's not a lot of guys who can do what he can do."

Back-to-school NYC: 1st day of in-person learning for middle and high schoolers - WABC-TV

NEW YORK (WABC) -- More students across New York City began in-person learning Thursday amid rising COVID cases in some parts of the city.

For the first time in nearly seven months, middle and high schoolers are once again back inside the classroom.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Carranza greeted families at One World Middle School in Edenwald.

"We did it! We did it! You did it! New York City did it! It's an amazing moment," Mayor Bill de Blasio said of the opening. "We did something that other cities in this country could only dream of."

In this unprecedented year, it's actually the third first day of school in the district.

"It's not going to be perfect right at the beginning, but we will continue to perfect and get better and build capacity as we go. Day one will not look like week one, will not look like what month one, or first semester, we're going to continue to get better," Carranza said.

If that doesn't sound complicated enough, the teacher's union says that even after all the delays, they still do not have enough teachers to fully staff schools.

That means some high schools have a situation where the students are in class, but the teacher will be remote, on a screen.

The pandemic is forcing so many complications.

And now, with COVID cases rising in some neighborhoods, some are wondering how long in-person will last.

"We have a very unusual situation here, where we have an uptick in a discrete set of zip codes," said Mayor de Blasio on Wednesday. "And we are not seeing an interconnection to our public school system. So we will watch it very carefully - daily, hourly. If at any point we determine we need to close an individual school, or any number of schools in that area, we will."

On Thursday, the mayor reiterated that their mission is to keep schools open, "all the way through" the school year.

And there are even more complications.

While some are calling for city schools to be fully remote, City Councilman Joseph Borelli on Staten Island says he is suing the city, demanding schools begin in-person learning for everyone.

He is expected to provide more details on his plan at later Thursday morning.

THURSDAY: Yet another day of sunshine and seasonable temperatures – as highs get into the upper 70s and lower 80s ahead of our next cold front slips into the region. Winds will kick up through the day with northerly gusts of 15-25 mph possible. The front will move through Thursday afternoon and evening, ushering in another cool down to head into the end of the work week. Expect lows to dip into the lower 50s under mainly clear skies.

Middle Beach seawall project to begin in November - pressherald.com

KENNEBUNK – Those who live along Middle Beach, or walk or drive there, will see work on the seawall commencing sometime next month.

The project involves replacement of 620 feet of timber seawall with a steel sheet pile wall and associated restoration of the sidewalk and roadway. The new seawall will be located behind the existing one, said Director of Community Development and Town Engineer Chris Osterrieder.

The $1.3 million project is largely paid by the Federal Emergency Management Agency; the town’s responsibility is $133,000, or 10 percent, he said. Maine Emergency Management Agency contributes 15 percent.

The project was developed following a damaging storm in March 2018.

SumCo Eco Contracting of Peabody, Massachusetts, submitted the low bid, which was accepted unanimously by the Select Board. There was discussion of another bid, from a Maine corporation, that was $48,000 more. Osterrieder told the Select Board that the project was already $250,000 more than FEMA had expected, and while the federal agency accepted that increase, Osterrieder said he wasn’t sure they would accept another.

He said the project is fairly straightforward and will be the last bit of town-involved work done along Middle Beach – although the U.S Army Corps of Engineers plans some work on the jetty next year.

Osterrieder said the work is essentially a four-month project – but is also weather dependent so six months has been built into the timeline, with the completion in May.

Select Board member Shiloh Schulte said storms that do damage to the seawall and other coastal entities are consequences of climate change and that Kennebunk and other communities need to think ahead.

“We need to plan ahead, of how we handle that area the next time it happens,” said Schulte.

Another cold front brings added clouds, sprinkles later today - WDBJ7

Another cold front moves through the region today. This front will bring an increase in clouds this afternoon with a few stray showers possible. Highs today climb into the lower 70s, but we’re only talking about 50s and 60s for highs this weekend. Saturday morning will start off in the 30s and 40s. We’ll have to monitor another cold front front for the second part of the weekend into early next week. The front may bring a few showers back into the region.

THURSDAY

We start the day with mostly sunny skies. Our next cold front approaches the region by late afternoon bringing increased clouds along with a stray shower, mainly to the mountains. By the evening, the front will slowly move east with a few showers possible for areas along/east of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Any rainfall would be very light. This won’t be anything like the front we had earlier in the week. Skies remain variably cloudy with any isolated showers wrapping up before sunrise Friday.

FRIDAY - SATURDAY - SUNDAY

By the end of the week, cooler air quickly filters in behind the second cold front taking afternoon temperatures tumbling to the low/mid 60s through the weekend. Overnight lows will slip to the upper 30s to low 40s for the first weekend of October. Skies remain clear both day and night. Another front heads our way for the second part of the weekend into early next week. This could bring a few showers back into the forecast.

Areas of frost could be possible in some of the deeper valley locations Saturday and Sunday morning. It may be a good idea to bring those plants indoors over the weekend just in case.
